I thought maybe I should up date you on something I need your help with. We hired a web "guy" and a list of contractors and thank you's will be in the next blog. But for now I am having a hard time swallowing the NAME CHANGE.."The boys" have opted for Cedar Theatre..and I believe the Logo says "Historic Cedar Theatre". I need your response and help in order to be good with this. I think the reason I love Cedar City Theatre so much is because I took ownership of it. AND being the controlling, psycho path that I am I DON'T like change--Unless the majority (which is YOU) says to GO with it.
I love all the reads and comments and since we have asked for your voice to be heard and we want the community to feel proud of this new project I would LOVE your thoughts-maybe not your Opinions (LOL).
But I am going out on a limb and asking for YOUR help to be okay with this..I know "The Boys" are after the search engine (GOOGLE) help.
Anyway, to keep if short let me know..Would love to have the okay and permission to let go of MY name-so to speak...
Thanks,
Sadie Pulsipher

I think you can't go wrong with the "Cedar City Theatre" or the "Historic Cedar Theatre." Personally, I like the "historic" in the name because it evokes a sense of nostalgia that wouldn't be there without it. Also, since you intend to use the theatre for some creative outlets, including older movies, this seems appropriate to me.
On a side note, I was a little upset by the timing of the Fiddlers theater's new discounted movie option. I think this is a transparent effort on their part to take the wind out of your sails. Are we supposed to believe it's just a coincidence that after all these years, they FINALLY decided to give us this option? I'm tempted to boycott these discounted films and throw my money your way when the business is up and running. I may even write a letter to the editor (The Daily News and Iron County today) complain about the Westates strategy.
I don't live in Cedar City, but I would vote for "Cedar Theatre." It's shorter and sounds less generic than "Cedar City Theatre". You can always prepend "Historic" onto the name without making it part of the official name. It's not fair, but some people think "historic" theaters have ancient seats and sound systems. The name that theaters put on their buildings and signs don't always match up with what they advertise with. The "Stadium 8" is typically called the "Cedar City Stadium 8", but sometimes "Cinema" replaces "Stadium" and "City" gets dropped. Up where I live, the "Cinemark 24 at Jordan Landing" now shows up in newspaper ads as "Cinemark West Jordan", but all it says on the building itself is just "Cinemark".
Oh my I'm late to the party but I'd love to give a ton of advice, I've done revival theater work in LA and I've spent a lot of time on this subject. I was not aware of the revival of this theater (or that it was from 1914 WOW) until googling tonight, guess I'm always late.
The name should either be historic or cool. You want it to stand out. I like the original name (Thorley I believe?) or you could come up with something new and cool but just meh 'Cedar City Theatre' isn't very inviting. But then there is a Los Angeles Theatre. Also going after the street name is always popular.
If I can throw in a few other suggestions I would just DIE to see some indie and rare films be run...anywhere in this God foresaken state (I'm sure in the cities they have this.) I noticed only one theatre in this area runs good movies, the one behind the Red Cliffs Mall and its always very late to the game (got the Artist 5 months after it came out, Albert Nobbs 3 months later...etc).
If you run old movies appoint somebody who has a had for them. You could contact me privately and I'd give you a good list of what I've seen work. For college kids its something that is entertaining, with a bit of allure, and sometimes just really WEIRD stuff. So if you will that lineup I just mentioned meant like say Buster Keaton, Casablanca, Mac N Me (google it its is WEIRD.) I think the oddest film viewing experience I've ever had is watching the train wreck that is Sextette...nothing has ever traumatized me more (and contrary to the name its not dirty or anything.)
A good rule of thumb is this: a mix of new classics (70s to 90s) that a lot of the 20 somethings grew up with, cult/weird/odd films that may live in infamy (Sextette, Song of the South, anything with Zsa Zsa Gabor), classics (30s to 60s) and then silents...I am adamant more people need to be watching silents and if you did a classic comedian lineup (Keaton, Chaplin, Lloyd) you'd surely pack the seats if you promoted it right.
In addition to all of that throw in some new indies that are hard to find in this part of the state without driving 10 hours. You need someone for programming who has a really deep heart in this stuff, but a ton of diversity (if you stick to reruns of Jack and Jill and like one viewing of Indiana Jones its gonna be nothing special.)
Again though I will be moving later this year I would be very happy to help in any way I could. My sister is also a big film buff, she could fill in when I'm gone. Is there an email I could send to? Because it'd be long for comments.
Belle, I love your passion. Contact me when you get to town and we will take notes on your ideas. You can email us at cedarcitytheatre@gmail.com or you can call at 435-590-2468.
Thanks again,
Sadie P.
